‘New’ Songs for the Set Please….

“So modern music is dead then. ‘Game show’ music has killed the whole thing off. Simon Cowell has sucked the creativity out of the world’s musical consciousness.” ….. Ah, nearly had you there. Admittedly, it can be an unrewarding endeavour seeking out today’s gems (‘74-‘77 it ain’t) but here goes as a top 5 of the past 5 or so years. Criteria…must be ‘now’ sounding…. i.e. no ‘’sounds a bit like The Cure, Joy Division, Steely Dan, The Beatles, The Buzzcocks etc.”
1. Avi Buffalo – What’s In It For?
2. Empire of the Sun – We are the People
3. Young the Giant – Cough Syrup
4. MGMT – Time to Pretend
5. Rudimental – Feel the Love

….and now a top 5 in the category “sounds a bit like……”

1. Dawes – From the Right Angle
2. Great Lake Swimmers – Palmistry
3. Anna Calvi – Desire
4. The Silver Seas – What’s the Drawback?
5. The National – Conversation 16

E-mail me your ideas if you like…… I’m looking for a couple of new covers for my set. If it goes ok on an acoustic even better!
